The Amsterdam artist Kristians (1883-1957) spent most of his life in the capital. He was a student of the Amsterdam Rijksacademie from 1903 to 1908. Antonius Kristians was, in addition to being a renowned artist, a popular association member. In 1912 he was the founder of the group 'The Independents'. From 1913 to 1921 Kristians lived in Paris. In 1957 the critic Hs. E. in Algemeen Handelsblad ?From the earliest years, the painting ??Deux tetes de femmes?? in the footsteps of Van Dongen and De Fauves?. During this period Kristians lived in the bustling painting district of Montmartre and maintained friendships with greats such as Utrillo and Odilon Redon. This ?Deux tetes de femmes? also evokes memories of synthetic cubism by, for example, George Braque. In addition to being a renowned artist, Antonius Kristians was a popular association member.
