Baruch Laguna (1864-1943)
Baruch LAGUNA (Amsterdam 1864 - Auschwitz, 1943), known painter of the Larense School.The painter Baruch Laguna was born on February 16 in 1864 in Amsterdam. He died in a German concentration camp around 1943. Laguna was a student of resp. the Quellinusschool, the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam led by A. Alleb_, S. Altmann and B. Wijnveld jr. and finally by MJ de Haan. Besides figures, portraits, interiors, still lifes, and flowers, he also painted and drew some cityscapes. He was usually very natural in his way of painting. In particular, he painted people. He taught JHW Brink, BF de Vries and Th. E. Wolterbeek Muller. He was also a member of ?Arti et Amicitiae? in Amsterdam.Laguna lived and worked in Amsterdam, Laren (NH), Hilversum and Blaricum.
