Dik BRUYNESTEYN (Rotterdam 1927 – Hoorn 2012)

Dutch comics artist and cartoonist.

Sport was a frequently recurring theme in his work. His first drawing was published in the Nieuwsblad van het Noorden in 1947. In 1948 he succeeded the legendary Bob Uschi as a sports cartoonist for the Haagsche Courant and Het Vrije Volk. In the 1970s and 80s he had a daily newspaper strip in many Dutch newspapers with Appie Happie, a strip about a football team, with which he gained his greatest fame. Drawings by Bruynesteyn also appeared in the German magazine Der Kicker and he was regularly seen drawing in Studio Sport.
