Frans Boers (1914-1987)

Frans Jacob Diederich Boers was born in 1914 near Liège. He lived and worked in Amsterdam, Laren (at the Kloosterweg nr 18), Baarn and Nieuwegein, where he died in 1987. Boers formed himself and he painted, drew and watercolored in an impressionistic style, animals, landscapes and portraits. He was a member of the association Visual Artists Laren-Blaricum. In 1950 Frans Boers visited the Wadden island of Texel for a holiday. He came there for the first time and he was so enchanted by everything he saw that he couldn't resist making a series of drawings. These drawings were published in 1977 in a book entitled An artist saw Texel. The text was provided by JA van der Vlis. The many, so different Texel landscapes, old farms and sheep farms, the winding dikes, the beautiful bird reserves, the beaches and the dunes, and the forests were immortalized by Frans Boers for posterity. A comparable book with drawings by Frans Boers was published in the 1980s under the title An artist saw Noordwest Overijssel. Work by Frans Boers is included in the collection of the Singer museum in Laren and in the Rijks collection
