Frans van Katwijk (1893-1952)
Artist
Ceramicist Frans van Katwijk was born in Schiedam. He became known for his work as a pottery painter and because of his special glazes. His career started in 1914 at a pottery factory in Nijmegen, where he worked as a pottery painter. Before coming to South Holland in 1915, Van Katwijk worked briefly at Zenith. A few years later he changed employers again and left for Schoonhoven, where he soon became artistic director. In 1946 Van Katwijk founded the Atelier Van Katwijk in Gouda in collaboration with his brother. They specialized in Delft Blue products.
