Gerard BERGMAN (Utrecht 1899 - 1980)

Gerard Bergman was a versatile, but less well-known visual artist and designer from Utrecht. Bergman was educated at the Institute Training for Drawing Teachers in Amsterdam. In 1921 he studied for a year at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Bergman worked as a painter, sculptor, watercolorist, (pen) draftsman, etcher, lithographer, engraver, craftsman and designer. From 1948 to 1957 he wrote as a music and art critic for the Free People. His graphic work consists of designs for book bindings, dust jackets, ex-libris and other occasional graphics.
