After high school, Jan des BOUVRIE (Naarden 1942-08-03, 2020-10-04) studied at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. After completing this, he worked for some time in his parents' furniture store. Later he started his own business. He also presented the television program TV Woonmagazine later in his career.
Des Bouvrie founded interior shops/design centers Het Arsenaal in Naarden and Grave. The location in Grave was closed in 2006.[1] Des Bouvrie also works for various companies, including household appliance manufacturer Princess, furniture factory Gelderland, hardware store Gamma and website Webstijl. He designed lighting, wallpaper, window decorations, outdoor furniture and sun protection products. Des Bouvrie is also active as a special professor at various design academies. In addition, two study programs are named after him; The Jan des Bouvrie College is part of the ROC in Amsterdam. The Jan des Bouvrie Academy, an HBO, is located in Deventer and is part of Saxion Next, a private college for vocational education.
As a public appearance, Des Bouvrie was regularly the subject of ridicule in Gert-Jan Dröge's television program Glamourland. This invariably brought Des Bouvrie into the picture with "Hello! Here we are again!" (audio plus title) and referred to the designer and his wife Monique tongue-in-cheek as 'de Bouvrietjes'. Des Bouvrie had not the slightest objection to this. His performance in Glamourland increased his brand awareness, and with it his order book, as he stated more than once to interviewers.
