Joan Collette (1889-1958)

Johan Nicolaas COLLETTE was born in Delft in 1889 and attended the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. From 1915 to 1924 he lived and worked in Blaricum. He painted, drew and made watercolors and posters. In 1924 he moved to Roermond, where he worked as a monumental designer in Cuypers' studio. He made his contribution to around forty churches. In 1928 he moved to Nijmegen, where he became friends with Jan Toorop and was able to continue his work in the ecclesiastical field. In addition to paintings, he also made woodcuts and illustrations.
