Pablo Atchugarry is a Uruguayan artist known for his abstract sculptures. His work is included in many important collections, both private and public. He has already had more than a hundred exhibitions.
Atchugarry selects the right block for each sculpture and is actively carving it himself, with minimal assistance. He often works with white Carrara marble from Tuscany, gray stone from Bardiglio, black stone from Belgium and pink stone from Portugal. Besides working with stone, he also works with bronze (with different patinas), ceramics and very rarely with wood.
His sculptures do not have just one right side, all sides must be seen as a whole. Every part of the work contributes to the total image and together they play a game with each other. The sculptures are also characterized by a stacked, carefully composed set of shapes that are consistently combined. Some sculptures can be seen both figuratively and abstractly.
