SAAD ALI - born in 1953, Diwania, Iraq, studied in Florence and Perugia at the Academy of Fine Arts, after which he worked and exhibited in Italy for 12 years. In 1985 he came to the Netherlands. He lived and worked here in Utrecht and Amsterdam. In 1999 and Saad Ali moved to Burgundy in France. He still has his French studio here, but since 2005 he lives and works in Valencia, Spain.
Saad Al is best known for his paintings full of passion and modest, warm love that evoke scenes from 1001 nights. A common theme in his paintings is the Baab al-Faraj, the Gate of Hope, an ancient Arabic symbol of the entrance to paradise. Often Saad's paintings are made on older panels and doors.
