Willem van Nieuwenhoven (jr.) (1913-1989)
Willem van Nieuwenhoven Jr. (Dordrecht, January 23, 1913 - Laren, September 1, 1989) was a Dutch painter, draftsman and illustrator. His father and mother were both artists. He received painting lessons from his father, the painter Willem van Nieuwenhoven (1851-1927). He was educated at the Applied Arts School in Amsterdam. He then started as an advertising artist with fashion drawings in newspapers, illustrations for children's books and designs for advertising brochures. He illustrated and designed bindings for various books by AD Hildebrand, including De Zilveren Spiegel in 1941, Het Vrouwtje van Stavoren in 1943 and Ali Baba en de Veertig Rovers for publisher A. Rutgers in Naarden. He made illustrations for the water sports magazine De Water Kampioen. During his training, Van Nieuwenhoven Jr. had learned the so-called scraperboard technique. He made a large mural in the Frisian town of Eernewoude. He first worked in his parental home at 21 Lage Vuurscheweg and later moved to 13 Jagersweg in Laren, which was called the International Painting Studio, and continued to live and work there for fifty years.
