Although Spronken has also made other work, he is known for his fascination for horses. The horse, a romantic symbol for strength and passion, is plastically and dynamically portrayed on the small medal by Spronken. Curving, repeating shapes that concern the rider as much as the animal. They seem to have grown together organically. Contrasting in shape are the narrow, tapered legs. The reverse shows a model of the front. In broad areas and less detailed, the horse appears as a torso with a clipped tail, against a smoother background than the front. In this way we can see for ourselves how the sculptor arrived at his final form; that provides insight into the work process.
