Artist

Basar (Bandung, 1901-1990) was one of the most important Indonesian exponents of the Mooi-Indie school. Basar learned to paint from his brother Suwardja and also received advice from Abdullah Suriosubroto, a famous painter of Indian landscapes. After leaving for Jakarta (1925) he became one of the best-known panoramic painters in Indonesia , loved by the colonial Dutch but also other foreigners.
