Henk POEDER (Assen 1897 - Kampen 1958)
Poeder lived and worked in Assen, Soest and Kampen. Poeder was a well-known illustrator and skilled painter of Veluwe landscapes, water landscapes around Kampen and river views. Henk Poeder's parents were not very pleased with their son's wish to become an artist. Contacts with artists among Belgian refugees therefore had the opposite effect. However, the son persisted in drawing. As a compromise, the young Poeder was placed with a house and decorative painter. There he earned a quarter a week, of which he was allowed to keep a penny for himself. From all those pennies that he carefully kept, the aspiring artist bought his first oil paint and brushes. He made his first cloth from his sister's cut apron. After attending a painting exhibition once, this aroused so much dismay from his boss that he fired him. There followed a period in which he went from one job to another. Around 1919 he ended up in Soest where he took drawing lessons with JH (Johan) Isings. In Assen he was taught by Louis Krans and LA (Louis) Roessingh. In 1929 he moved to Kampen. Around that city and in the Veluwe he mainly painted and drew landscapes. Henk Poeder died in 1958 in Kampen. His grandson Henk, born in 1964, followed in his grandfather's footsteps and is also a painter.
